2nd Trip...This one as a tribute to our Buddy, Frank. The three of us left with 3 bulls - 2 of them big trophies!! Many thanks to Diane, Hazen & Stacey for their kind hospitality. I can’t say enough about the great experience I had on this trip. The province of Newfoundland is absolutely beautiful. It was a very stark contrast to step from the plane at Gander airport after traveling from the high desert country of Wyoming. I was met by the owner/operator of Ocean Side Country Lodge, Hazen Chippett, and driven back to his beautiful lodge situated right off the Atlantic Ocean. To say that Hazen and his family are some of the greatest people that I have ever met is an understatement. By the time my one-week stay was over I felt like a member of their family. Diane is an incredible cook, and their lodge is beautiful. I got to meet my guide the first night, and was excited to hear that he had bears hitting several bait sights. I shot my gun several times to make sure it was okay after the long flight, and then we went fishing for brook trout, and they were plentiful. On the first evening of hunting after sitting in my stand for less than 5 minutes a huge black bear came rumbling out of the bush and stood at 23 paces. One shot to the front shoulder put the bear down for good, and I had collected an official Boone and Crochet and gold medal SCI trophy. I never imagined that I would be so fortunate. The rest of the week was spent sight seeing. I was able to see some beautiful icebergs, my first humpback whale, several Minke whales, and the most breath taking scenery ever. I was able to be a lobster fisherman for a day. Hazen is a fisherman by trade, and allowed me to spend a day checking lobster pots. We ate lobster on the shore of Atlantic Ocean. For a guy from a small town in Wyoming, this is definitely the trip of a lifetime I can’t recommend Ocean Side Country Lodge enough. I hope to one day return to Newfoundland, and see my good friends, the Chippetts.
